It’s Official! Rockies Have Absolutely No Chance In 2010!
29 March 2010 Updated 13 August 2010 The Colorado Rockies will definitely not play in the 2010 World Series. The Denver Baseball Observer knows this because Tony’s New York Pizza store near the corner of Mississippi and Wadsworth in Lakewood, Colorado has painted a sign on their window guaranteeing free pizza for all if the Rockies win the Western Division in 2010. Last year, they promised the same deal if the Chicago Cubs made the World Series. You do the math.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the Rockies could win the Wild Card and make it to the 2010 Fall Classic without winning the Western Division, as the Rockies did in 2007. But there are long odds against that happening, as only one team has made it to the World Series as a Wild Card twice - the 1997 and 2003 Florida Marlins, who won both times.  In the 15 years of Wild Card teams, the World Series has only had a National League non-division winner 6 times or 40%. But only two of those were Western Division teams, or 13%.
But if you subscribe to the theory that history means nothing, or you keep looking back to 2007 when the Rox had the miracle streak of winning 20 of their last 21 games, they still have a chance. Don't count on eating free pizza some time in October, though.
